Other Information

Construction & Demolition (C&D) Debris

Effective January 1, 2011, the California Green Building Code (CalGreen) requires 50 percent diversion of waste from construction and demolition projects through recycling and/or salvage. This CalGreen requirement applies to:

All new construction of a building, regardless of project value;

Additions to non-residential buildings or structures of at least 2,000 square feet or alterations with an estimated construction cost of at least $500,000.

Note: for CalGreen, a waste management plan is not required if using an approved mixed C&D facility; however, we do not have one of these permitted within Merced County. Please see the Commercial Recycling Guide below to locate recyclers/reusers based on material type.
