American recycling is stalling, and the big blue bin is one reason why - June 21, 2015 - The Washington Post

  • The Merced County Regional Waste Management Authority received Tire-Derived Aggregate (TDA) grant funds from the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle).
  • The TDA was used in place of conventional aggregate in part of a landfill gas collection system at the Higway 59 Landfill in Merced.
  • 3,423,740 pounds, or about 171,187 passenger tires were diverted through this project, thanks to the grant funds from CalRecycle.

  • The Merced County Regional Waste Management Authority received a Tire-Derived Products Grant from the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle).
  • The grant helped fund a landscaping project around the west and south sides of the MCRWMA administration building, located at the Highway 59 Landfill.
  • Tire-Derived Products funded by the grant were the rubber mulch and rubber stall mats, which were provided by a local manufacturer: Altogether, about 6,655 tires were recycled and used for this project.
